Our daily breakfast between 6 and 7 am consists, in part, of the many fresh fruits - still have to try 'Custard Apple' fruit. Jack really enjoyed Elocia's 'Pepper Pot'...
Today is the 9th of June 2009: countdown time. Just finished our breakfast of wheat pancakes with fresh pineapple, paw paw, sweet finger banans & apple bananas. We will miss this...
Our departure from Georgetown via Caribbean Airlines is 5:35 am on the 25th of June. Time to try and fit 200 pounds into four pieces of luggage along with 32 pounds for carry-on.
On May 31st we visited two of our past congregations Epiphany & Ascension Lutheran - Jack preached and we were re-united with many of our old friends...
Setting up before church in Ascension - we saw many amazing changes since Pastor Richard Young... notice the beautiful murals - hand painted by a local man. The crucifix on cross was sculped in clay by another local artist. The SCS are led by Rose each Sunday.
We hopefully will arrive in Toronto via POS Trinidad at 3:30 pm where Jack will take a flight to Vancouver for the Convention at 6 pm and Val to Winnipeg at 7.
Our calendar is full for this next 16 days - birthday celebrations - farewells - final confirmation classes for the seven teens - we have two remaing Bible studies - and last visits to the shut-ins. In fact today we go out to celebrate with Judy and Dick on the occasion of Dick's birthday tonight, which is actually on the 11th (Kyle's today - Jacob's 12th). Our two grandsons are in our hearts as they turn 22 (where did the years go?)
Valerie will be busy setting up Calvary's computer so they will be able to continue with bulletins, and other church related material. There is a young lady interested in taking on this important job.
Sunday, the 21st of June will be a major celebration: Confirmation - Father's Day - our farewell...
Our closing days have become more tolerable with the seasonable heavy rains have arrived (still muggily hot when sun is out). Torrential rains fell over the weekend - areas of the city had flooded streets - our compound trenches were in overflow on Saturday/Sunday, but no serious flooding - the kokers are doing their job. Our hopes are always that the heavy rains come at low tide in order for the waters to escape to the ocean - high tide rains are another story!
We will be meeting with the ELCG President to discuss future volunteer short term pastors and to evaluate our past six months as pastor couple at Calvary Lutheran Church.
We will miss the friends we re-unite with from 2004/05 and the many new ones made in this past six months.
We will be arriving in Manitoba in time to greet the newly hatched and hungry black flies and mosquitoes - we will be able to compare them with the biting critters of South America. The little geckoes are definetly our friends!!
