Friends & Family ... Still raining - NO the rains are not over, travelling this past week...people all wearing rubber boots, we should buy some - we must wear closed in track shoes to keep dirty water out. The flood is not as bad as 2005.

much more than we ex-pected. Our exercise is getting all over on foot - our shopping needs surround us - the other day we took a long hike to a store we thought was close! could have bought another hammock for Bishop Mike - we'd come up against the Demerara River which flows into the Atlantic.
We joined Pastor Dick Young, M.D. at a 'Thanksgiving Service' along the East Bank on Saturday p.m. - such a great thing to join in thankful praise and a house blessing, much singing. Yum yum pineapple and small plump sweet bananas (apple variety) from the trees here on the compound along with great paw paw. There are many varieties of bananas in Guyana - regular as we know, finger tiny sweet, apple, red, plaintain and more...
Today, not too much sun...much rain still but not as bad as last week - went shopping (we walk) this a.m. about 4 hours ago (8:30) - pleasant, not too hot. When we came out of store (that had everything! first time there...) it was raining cats & dogs, we carry an umbrella always - against rain plus for sun protection. The rain is refreshing! Our friend in Duluth wrote yesterday saying their windchill was -44, Winnipeg was - 35.7 without windchill factor this a.m. - need I say more!!!
This Sunday Jack will preach in Calvary then we will take an ~1 hour mini bus ride towards airport and the Demerara River and then ~1 hour boat ride to a small village called Sand Hill for a 2 p.m. communion service. Been there before, loved it. It will be dark (6 pm) by the time we get back.
Anyone wanting to visit, we could show you many new experiences... up & down rivers that are 27 miles wide at the mouth - also the Kaieteur Falls which is 5X's higher than Niagara with tripping through the rain forest exploring the flora, fauna and birdwatching - we also really enjoyed the Iwokorama Rainforest and the Canopy Walkway that CIDA built. Just walking the streets around here every day we see something new to check out. The sounds of the Caribbean and then to be reminded of the strong Indian culture (Bollywood genre) - Celine Dion...oldies and favourite religious. We may be living in inner city Georgetown but, a totally different experience to living on Sheriff Street - the toads and frogs entertain us at night - the Bourda Market next door is open 24 hours but, the noise level is quiet in comparison to night bars that end up in gun fights. If you have a craving for a fresh pineapple - some cold coconut milk drunk out of the whole shell with a straw, at midnight - it a stones throw away.

everything has been on the positive - the people have been so welcoming. Our friend from our first days in Africa (CAR / Cameroon) into Guyana (New Amsterdam) - Pastor Judy McGuire, is visiting us tomorrow for the day (we were there last Wednesday - the ELCG headquarters are in NA). We get along great and will enjoy a cool drink over ice with a slice of lime. We'll sit out on our closed in (with protective grids) balcony - I love doing my needlework and reading out there (especially.jpg)
watching the night turn to day at precisely 6:05) and watching for parrots that land on the tops of the tall coconut palms.
We have a very mangy, skinny dog that sleeps
outside our house gate - I bought t-bone dog biscuits (very highly priced!), if I treat him with treats he'll surely look after us - today he actually wagged his tail at us - today I bought some bones to boil up with rice.
